Let's get started with little detailed steps for making eggless Christmas tree mini-cakes:
Step-1 Prepare vanilla green cake
- Pour sugar, oil and yogurt into a bowl. Whisk to combine well.
- Add vanilla essence/extract and whisk again.
- Next, stir in the green food colour, whisk and keep it aside.
- To another bowl, sieve all the dry ingredients, i.e. all-purpose flour, baking soda and baking powder.
- Slowly add dry ingredients to wet ingredients while stirring to avoid lump formation.
- Grease a baking tin and pour batter into it.
- Bake for 35 minutes at 180 degrees centigrade or till the skewer comes out clean on inserting into the cake.
- Cool it completely before slicing.
Step-2 Frosting
- Combine butter, powdered sugar, and red food colour in a bowl and whisk till creamy and frothy.
- Transfer the frosting to a piping bag fitted with a round nozzle to cover mini trees. (as shown in pictures below)
Note:- I take powdered sugar slightly grainy to give the frosting a bit rough texture.
- If you like your frosting to be a creamy texture, consider whisking with a hand mixer or electric mixer.
Step- 3 Decoration
Here comes the most fascinating and fun part of the cake that every kid loves!!!.
- Once the cake is cooled completely, cut the cake in half on the longer side as this is a rectangle cake.
- Then cut each half side into six triangle shapes to get twelve cake trees.
- Use the piping bag to make strings on the Christmas tree cakes. It is the part that even my cutie loves the most, and you can see her creation!!
(Frankly, It does not matter to me how it turned out as long as she is happy and willing to decorate these egg-free Christmas tree mini cakes.) - Take out straws and cut them into halves.
- Using these straws, make a small hole in the bottom of the Christmas tree and insert that into the hole.
- Finally, time for sprinkles or hundreds and thousands!
Enjoy this super fun activity with your little pies, even if these do not have the perfect finish!!
Store these eggless Christmas tree mini cakes in the fridge until you serve them.

- Keep these cakes in the fridge and can store up to 1-2 days.
- You can even prepare the cake a day before and then decorate the next day if you are short on time.
How many servings does this recipe make?
The number of servings this recipe makes depends on how big you like to cut your tree slices. I cut big triangle slices of cake. It comes with twelve slices of tree cakes.
Some alternatives
- Consider heavy whipped cream instead of butter for the smooth, creamy frosting.
- You can also use icing prepared with sugar and water to decorate the trees instead of making frosting. It will also save you time!!
- Sprinkle desiccated coconut on the top of the tree cakes if you are a coconut freak.
Tips n tricks
- Do not over mix the cake batter as the resulting cake will not be spongy and soft.
- Let the cake cool completely before cutting to prevent its crumbling.
- To save time, prepare the cake a day before and decorate when you plan to party.
