How to make mini Christmas tree cakes?
You can find this creative, fun-filled Christmas tree treats recipe video below, but here is a quick overview of the procedure:
Bake cake
Add the sugar, oil, and yogurt to a bowl and whisk until well combined. Mix in the vanilla essence or extract and whisk again. Then, stir in the green food coloring, give it another whisk, and set the mixture aside (Images 1-4).

Sift together all the dry ingredients. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring continuously to prevent lumps from forming.

Grease a baking tin and pour the batter in. Bake at 180°C for about 35 minutes, or until a skewer inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the cake cool completely before slicing.
Frosting
In a bowl, combine the butter, powdered sugar, and red food coloring. Whisk until the mixture is light, creamy, and fluffy. Transfer the frosting to a piping bag fitted with a round nozzle and use it to decorate the mini Christmas trees (as shown in the pictures below).

Note:
I use slightly grainy powdered sugar to give the frosting a rough texture. If you prefer a smoother, creamier frosting, use a hand mixer or electric mixer to whisk it thoroughly.
Decoration
Now comes the most fun and exciting part, decorating the cakes! It’s something every kid loves!
Once the cake has cooled completely, cut it in half lengthwise (since it’s a rectangular cake). Then, cut each half into six triangles to make twelve mini Christmas tree cakes (image 1).
Use the piping bag to pipe strings of frosting onto each tree. This is my little one’s favorite part, just look at her creation (image 2).

Cut straws in half and use them as tree trunks. Make a small hole in the base of each tree and insert a straw piece (image 3).
Finally, bring out the sprinkles or hundreds and thousands, it’s time to decorate and make them sparkle (image 4)!!
Have fun doing this activity with your little ones, even if the cakes don’t turn out perfectly!

Honestly, I don’t mind how they turn out, as long as kids are happy and having fun decorating these egg-free Christmas tree mini cakes.
Fun recipes to make with kids
Storage
- These Christmas mini desserts are best enjoyed fresh.
- Store any leftover cakes in the fridge for up to 1–2 days.
- If you’re short on time, you can bake the cake a day in advance and decorate it the next day.
Some Alternatives
Use heavy cream instead of butter for a smoother, creamier frosting. Learn how to whip cream by hand!
You can also decorate the trees with a simple icing made from sugar and water instead of frosting. It's a great time-saver!
For a festive touch, sprinkle desiccated coconut over the top of the tree cakes.

Expert Tips
- Avoid overmixing the cake batter, as this can make it dense instead of light and spongy.
- Always let the cake cool completely before cutting to prevent it from crumbling.
- To save time, you can bake the cake a day in advance and decorate it on the day of your party.
