What if you want a break from these? No worries, I have come up with a healthy and delicious savoury Xmas treats recipe using spinach and carrot. These yummy, buttery, and crunchy treats will melt in your mouth like anything.
Whether you are watching your calories or just looking for a festive and fun Christmas activity, these low-calorie spinach carrot snacks are sure to please.

Ingredients
To make this spinach carrot savory Christmas snack, you need these ingredients:
- Spring onions - These give a unique zingy intense flavour.
- Spinach- I have used baby spinach leaves for this recipe. These are soft and have a sweeter flavour than the matured ones.
- Carrot - These add crunchiness to the recipe. For making these savoury Xmas treats, I use orange carrots as these are the ones available at my location. Use anyone.
- Cilantro - Adds vibrant flavour and fragrance to the treats.
- Flour - I use Pillsbury Atta with multigrain. Use any.
- Salt - Regular table salt
- Spices -Chilli powder, garam masala and carom seeds (ajwain)
- Butter - I prefer salted butter.
- Water - To knead the dough.

- First of all, thoroughly wash all the vegetables. Grate the carrot and chop the rest of the vegetables.
- Combine all the ingredients except water into a large bowl and mix thoroughly. (image below)
- Knead into a smooth dough by adding a small amount of water.
- Refrigerate the dough for 20 minutes to set.
- Dust the work surface with flour, scrape the dough out of the bowl and shape it into a big disc.
- Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes and use a knife or spatula to transfer them to a plate. (Image below)
Shallow fry them using butter on low heat. Flip the sides. (image below)
Fry them until these treats turn golden red. Remove them to a plate.
Serve warm.

Substitutions
- Replace spring onions with onions if these are not available. But this recipe tastes amazing with spring onions.
- Cilantro is optional. Skip it if you don’t like it.
- Substitute butter with oil for a healthier option. But you will compromise on the taste.

- You can also bake these treats instead of shallow fry. Bake them at 180 °C for 10-15 mins with the change of side in between.
- Use gluten-free flour for gluten-free options.
- Add green chillies for a spicy version.
Equipment
To make this spinach carrot Christmas treats, I use Christmas cookie cutters from Coles in the shape of a star, gingerbread man and flower.
Feel free to use whatever you like.
How to serve these treats?
These savoury Christmas treats are so yummy that you won't need anything to serve with them.
But you can serve them with chutneys like green chutney, carrot chutney, spicy schezwan sauce, and tomato sauce.
Storage
- Store the leftover spinach carrot treats in the fridge.
- Reheat on a skillet or microwave them for 30 seconds before serving.
- These stay fresh for 3-4 days when stored in the fridge.
Tips N Suggestions
- Cook these spinach carrot treats on low heat only. Otherwise, it may not cook properly.
- Flip the sides in between to provide them heat on all sides.
- If treats don’t stay in their shapes after cutting, refrigerate for 10 minutes before frying them.
- Add water slowly while kneading the dough to avoid sticky, runny dough.
- Make a disc of thickness less than 0.6 cm or ¼ inch.
- The number of treats may vary depending on the treat cut-out size and thickness of the disc you rolled.

Spinach Carrot Xmas Treats
Equipment
- 3 cookie cutters
- 1 bowl
- 1 Skillet/pan
Ingredients
- 300 g Multi-grain flour
- 50 g Butter
- 50 g Baby Spinach (chopped)
- 1 Carrot (grated)
- 2 Spring onions (chopped)
- few leaves Cilantro (chopped)
- 1 teaspoon Chilli powder
- 1 teaspoon Garam masala
- 1 tablespoon Salt
- 1 teaspoon Carom seeds/ajwain
- 1 cup Water
- Butter (approximately 100-150g) for shallow frying
Instructions
- Thoroughly wash vegetables. Grate a carrot and chop the rest of the veggies.
- Combine all the ingredients except water in a bowl.
- Knead the dough using water.
- Refrigerate the dough for 20 minutes to set.
- Using a rolling pin, roll into a large disc of thickness less than 0.6 cm or ¼ inch.
- Cut out into shapes you like.
- Shallow fry them using butter on a skillet or a pan.
- Flip both sides. Stop cooking when both sides turn golden red.
- Voila!! Serve warm crunchy spinach carrot Xmas treats.
