What is green chutney?
Chutney is made with fresh herbs, vegetables, fruits, and spices. It can serve as a side dish to almost any main or as a dipping sauce for snacks. Green chutney is prepared using fresh herbs that impart green colour to the chutney and are thus called green chutney.
There are endless variations of green chutney that can prepare easily at home. It can be sweet, savoury, tangy and a mix of all these. They complement Indian food so well that now it’s a norm to have them with meals also.
Green chutney is one of the most liked and goes well with any meal or snack. No Indian street food and snacks are complete without this green chutney. It is a normal routine to have chutney with an Indian meal. Apart from flavour it also boosts the digestion process.
Each household has its style of preparing chutney depending upon what suits its taste buds. Each time I make green chutney at home, I try some variations in the chutney recipe to find which one is better with which ingredients.

What Goes in this Cilantro Mint Chutney?
For making this Indian cilantro mint chutney, you need the following ingredients:
- Coriander/ Cilantro: 3 bunches - I prefer mostly leaves with fine stems and cut the thick, tough stems. I believe chutney tastes better with leaves. The best would be for you to try both the variations and decide for yourselves.
- Green Chillies: 4 - No chutney can make tasty without chillies. Feel free to add as many as you like.
- Peanuts: 20 g (optional) Peanuts provides good texture and consistency.
- Yogurt: ½ cup Yogurt makes chutney thick and gives it a bright verdant colour. You can skip this if you are looking for dairy-free options. Instead, add more lemon juice.
- Lemon Juice: 1 tablespoon Lemon give it a slight tanginess and balance the flavours. If you have fresh lemons, what to say!
- Spices - Cumin, carom, Sugar and salt according to taste.

I love fast recipes! This recipe is delicious and healthy. I replaced the yogurt with plain almond yogurt because I can’t have dairies but it was still so good.
You are right, using rock salt really boosts the taste. I also loved the peanuts in it 😋
