About the recipe
My little cutie, Amulya, who has school holidays, highly requested this recipe. She wants to help me make these easy sugar cookies in air fryer. It is one of the best recipes I have ever made, as we spend lots of time chatting and laughing while making these yummy cookies. These air-fried sugar cookies come out perfect, evenly fried on both sides with beautiful golden colour. They taste so yummy that you can’t resist without going more!!
Initially, I was a little reluctant to shoot a full recipe with her, as I knew it would take much more time than me shooting alone. However, I did not want her to watch TV while making these cookies, so I let her make this recipe under my guidance.
My decision to involve her in the kitchen worked well, as she was too excited and fully engaged in making, cutting, and decorating these cookies. We did not realize how time flew. She was so happy to see the beautiful cookies prepared by herself!! I don't have words to explain her happiness after seeing these gorgeous and delicious cookies.
So, friends, I would say it is the best activity for parents to involve their kids in the kitchen with themselves for many reasons:
- First, you will know things going on in your kiddie’s mind.
- Second, you will get quality time to spend with them.
- Third, you are encouraging them and boosting their confidence.
- Lastly, and most importantly, you are helping them to develop cooking skills.
In a nutshell, it is worth trying this sugar cookie recipe with your little pies!! For more healthy air fryer recipes, check this frozen roasted potato and air-fried potatoes and carrots.
Ingredients
To make this air fryer sugar cookies recipe, you need these ingredients:
- Flour - For making these air fryer sugar cookies, the base you need is all-purpose flour.

- Egg - One large egg is enough to create moisture and provides a good texture to the cookies.

Substitutions
- Replace the egg with half a cup of yogurt for vegetarian options.
- Add a half teaspoon of salt if you are using unsalted butter.
- You can replace butter with oil if you are worried about the calories, but oil won’t bring that delicious taste to the cookies.
- Skip sprinkles if you mind extra sugary crunch on the top.
- You can also substitute sprinkles with desiccated coconut for a coconutty crunch.
Equipment
- To make these sugar cookies in the air fryer, I use a Westinghouse oven with an air fryer for 7-8 minutes at a temperature of 160°C. Keep these cookies apart.
- Use an air fryer you have, but watch out for cooking time.
- I use cookie cutters from Coles in the shape of a star and heart to cut the cookies. These are somewhat big cutters, but I won't mind big-size cookies.
Storage
Store these air fryer sugar cookies in an air-tight container to keep them fresh for a long time.
FAQ
Yes, you can make cookies in the air fryer easily and faster than in the oven. You don’t even need to flip them. These come out so evenly and perfectly super crispy in each bite.
Air fryer cookies are done when the cookies’ edges turn slightly light brown or red. Turn off the air fryer and allow the cookies to cool down for 5-8 minutes.
Troubleshooting
- If your dough is not coming out, add a small amount of butter or oil to the mixed ingredients to provide enough moisture to bind the gluten in the flour.
- If sugar cookies don’t hold shape, it indicates the following:
- You added the incorrect proportion of butter and sugar to the recipe.
- You used less amount of flour.
- You did not roll the cookie disc flat.
- Your cookies are not of the required thickness.
- Sugar cookies are too hard to eat because
- You have air-fried them for a longer time.
- You air-fry these cookies at high temperatures.
- Ingredients could have over mixed while making cookie dough.
- Overuse of flour could also be one of the reasons for their hardening.
Tips
- Use butter kept at room temperature. Avoid melted butter.
- If the dough is too dry, add a little oil to the dough.
- If the dough is too oily, add a little flour to balance out the consistency.
- Make a disc of a thickness of less than 0.6 cm or ¼ inch.
- If cut-out cookies are not coming out or sticking to the dough, use a spatula or knife to transfer them to the tray.
- The number of cookies may vary depending on the cookies cut-out size and thickness of the disc you rolled.
- Place these cookies apart from each other on the air fryer tray.
- These air fryer sugar cookies cook too fast, so monitor them while air frying.
