About air-fryer cookies
My little cutie was on her school holidays and kept asking to make this recipe with me. She was so excited to help bake these easy sugar cookies in the air fryer (especially cutting and decorating)!
It turned out to be one of my favourite recipes ever, not just for the taste but for the memories we spent hours chatting, laughing, and baking together.
These air-fried sugar cookies come out perfectly golden and evenly cooked on both sides, just like air fryer orange cookies. They’re so delicious, you can’t stop at just one!
We once made Christmas tree cakes together a while ago, just for fun!
I truly believe getting kids involved in the kitchen is one of the best activities for parents and children. Here’s why:
- You get to know what’s going on in your child’s mind.
- Spending real, quality time together is something you’ll both always cherish
- You build their confidence and encourage them.
- Most importantly, you help them learn valuable cooking skills!
Ingredients
To make this air fryer sugar cookie recipe, you need these ingredients:

Sugar - Granulated sugar goes well for making these cookies. I have used a brown one.
Egg - It adds moisture and helps bind all the ingredients together, giving the cookie structure so it stays intact and doesn’t crumble.
If you prefer making eggless cookies, check my eggless air fryer cookies and coffee cookies eggless recipes on the blog!
Butter - I use salted butter for this recipe. Use whatever you feel is the best and most handy you have.

How to make sugar cookies in air fryer?
- To make sugar cookies in an air fryer, combine butter and sugar using a hand mixer or whisk in a mixing bowl.
- Add an egg and mix well.
- Stir in vanilla essence and mix again.
- Using a sieve, combine all the dry ingredients, i.e., all-purpose flour, baking powder, and baking soda, with the wet ingredients (image below).

- Combine well to make a soft dough.
- Refrigerate this dough for 15-20 minutes.
- Roll this dough into a large disc approximately ¼ inch using a rolling pin.
- Cut out cookies with a cookie cutter in the shapes you like. My cutie chose star and heart-shaped cutters.

- Transfer them to the lined air fryer tray.
- Decorate them with sprinkles. Completely optional step!
- Press these sprinkles a little down with a rubber spatula to prevent them from coming off while air-frying.

- Air fry these sugar cookies in a preheated air fryer for about 7-8 minutes at 160°C.
- Turn off the air fryer when the edges of the cookies turn slightly brown or slightly red.
- Let them cool in the air fryer for another 5-10 minutes.

Substitutions
- Replace the egg with half a cup of yogurt for vegetarian options.
- Add a half teaspoon of salt if you are using unsalted butter.
- Swap butter with oil if you are worried about the calories, but oil won’t bring that delicious taste to the cookies.
- Skip sprinkles if you don't like them.
- Substitute sprinkles with desiccated coconut for a coconutty crunch.
Equipment
To make these easy air fryer sugar cookies, I use my Westinghouse oven’s air fryer function and bake them for 7–8 minutes at 160°C. Make sure to space the cookies apart. You can use any air fryer you have; just keep an eye on the cooking time, as it may vary.
I use star- and heart-shaped cookie cutters from Coles. They’re a bit on the larger side, but I don’t mind bigger cookies at all!

FAQ
Yes, you can make cookies in the air fryer easily and faster than in the oven. You don’t even need to flip them. These come out so evenly and perfectly, super crispy in each bite.
Air fryer cookies are done when the cookies’ edges turn slightly light brown or red. Turn off the air fryer and allow the cookies to cool down for 5-8 minutes.

Troubleshooting
- If your dough is not coming out, add a small amount of butter or oil to the mixed ingredients to provide enough moisture to bind the gluten in the flour.
- If sugar cookies don’t hold their shape, it indicates the following:
- The incorrect proportion of butter and sugar in the recipe.
- Less flour.
- The cookie dough is not rolled flat.
- The cookies are not of the required thickness.
- Sugar cookies are too hard to eat because
- Air-fried for a longer time.
- The temperature is set too high.
- Overmixed ingredients.
- An excess of flour could also be one reason for their hardening.
Expert Tips
- If the dough is too dry, add a little oil; and if too oily, add a little flour to balance out the consistency.
- Make a disc of a thickness of less than 0.6 cm or ¼ inch.
- If cut-out cookies are not coming out or sticking to the dough, use a spatula or knife to transfer them to the tray.
- The number of cookies may vary depending on the cookie cut-out size and the thickness of the disc rolled.
- Place these cookies apart from each other on the air fryer tray.
- These air fryer sugar cookies cook too fast, so monitor them while air frying.
