📋Ingredients

To make orange crunchy cookies, you need these items;

labelled ingredints for orange cookie recipe.

Orange - For this easy orange cookie recipe, I use both fresh orange zest and juice to maximize flavor. Start by washing the oranges thoroughly and patting them dry. Using a fine grater, gently zest the peel, then squeeze out the juice to incorporate directly into the dough.

Egg - It provides moisture and also helps hold all the ingredients together, giving the cookie structure so it doesn't fall apart.

Butter - I usually prefer salted butter for a touch of extra flavor, but feel free to use whatever you have available.

Sugar - For the best texture, use powdered sugar as it blends seamlessly into the dough and gives the cookies a delicate, tender crumb.

👩‍🍳How to make orange cookies in air fryer

You can find this easy, simple orange cookie recipe video below, but here is a quick overview of the procedure:

Prepare the dough

In a bowl, beat the butter until light and fluffy. Add powdered sugar, egg, and orange juice, and whisk until well combined. Gradually fold in the dry ingredients, including the fresh orange zest.

Mix with a spatula and knead into a soft dough. Cover the dough with cellophane and chill for 20 minutes.

✂️ Two techniques for cutting orange cookie dough

To shape these delightful rectangle orange-zest cookies, I use two distinct cutting methods, each offering its own charm and texture. Feel free to select the technique you're comfortable with.

1️⃣ Roll & cut from circular dough

In this technique, roll the dough into a big circular disc. Then cut out a large rectangle and portion it into evenly sized smaller rectangles using a sharp knife.

Cut the cookie dough into small rectangles by slicing horizontally and then vertically.

I prefer this method because it gives consistently sized cookies with clean edges, making them ideal for gifting or presentation. The only downside is that you need to keep rolling the dough until all the cookies are made.

2️⃣Block Method

Once the dough has chilled and firmed up, wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and shape it into a smooth, elongated rectangular block using gentle pressure from your hands. Slice the log into evenly sized rectangular pieces.

Cut it into equal-sized cookies using a sharp knife.

This method is quick, efficient, and perfect for preparing a large batch of orange cookies with a uniform shape and size.

Chill the cookies

Arrange the orange zest cookies on a lined air fryer tray, leaving enough space for them to spread. Sprinkle a little extra zest on top, then chill the tray in the refrigerator for 10-15 minutes before air frying.

Air-fry fresh orange cookies

Air-fry in the preheated air fryer at 160°C for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges and underside of the cookies begin to turn lightly golden.

Switch off the air fryer and leave the cookies inside for another 2-5 minutes, then transfer them to a cooling rack to cool completely.

❄️Storage

Once cookies are cooled, transfer them to an airtight container. These orange tea cookies stay fresh up to a week.

ℹ️FAQs

1. Can I skip the orange zest and use only juice?

You can, but zest provides most of the strong citrus flavor. Without it, the cookies will taste milder.

2. Why do my orange cookies turn soft after a day?

Moisture in the air can soften them. Store in an airtight container with a small piece of parchment paper to keep them crisp.

3. Can I use whole wheat flour instead of all-purpose flour?

Yes, but the cookies may turn slightly denser and less crispy. Mixing half whole wheat and half all-purpose flour gives better results.

4. Can I bake these cookies in the oven instead of the air fryer?

Yes! Bake at 170°C / 340°F for 10-12 minutes or until the edges turn golden.

📝Tips

For the best aroma and flavor, always use fresh orange zest and freshly squeezed orange juice

Flatten the cookie dough well for maximum crispness.

Don't overcrowd the air-fryer tray.

Cool completely before storing.

Store in a sealed, airtight container to lock in their crispness.
