    About choco pillow bites

My cutie is fond of cornflakes cereals and wants to try every flavour that catches her attention!! This time, the packaging of chocolate-filled pillow cereals impressed her. After coming out of the testing phase, her so-called ‘favourite yummy pillows’ suddenly turned into yucky ones!! As of now, she shifted her interest to the fruity ones. So, poor abandoned choco pillows!! While cleaning up the mess in my pantry, the abundance of these choco pillows sparked my interest in making these bites. The results were outstanding, as expected!!

It is an easy and quick recipe that takes just 10 minutes to prepare. You can make these bites by combining butter, chocolate and choco pillows. I use chocolate-filled hazelnut pillows for this recipe, which give these bites a super crisp with an extra chocolatey and nutty flavour. These bites are so irresistible with the buttery, nutty and chocolatey crunch of cereals that you can enjoy this quick snack on the go!

Don't forget to check out such easy, no-cook recipes like fruit cream, strawberry smoothies, and fruit balls to energize your day with the freshness of fruits.

    Reasons to💖these pillow bites

    • Good dietary source of fibre as pillow bites are a blend of multi-grain.
    • These chocolate bites are fortified with 8 vitamins and iron. (Harvest morn as per their claim)
    • No sugar, no egg, no flour, just 3 ingredients required to prepare these chocolate pillow bites.
    • No baking and no cooking are required, only you need to combine the ingredients and freeze them. That's it!!
    • No fancy equipment or techniques, so involving kids in making these choco bits is super easy.
    • Storage is not the issue, as these bites stay fresh for a long time in the fridge.
    • And last but not least, these chocolate bites are so yummy and crunchy nuts and cereals will melt in your mouth like anything!!

    Ingredients

These choco pillow bars require only 3 ingredients to prepare:

choco pillows, butter and choclate on the table
    3-ingredient chocolate recipe
    • Chocolate pillows- I use Aldi chocolate pillows (Harvest Morn) for this recipe as these are filled with chocolate-flavoured hazelnut pillows that give these bites a rich and crunchy, delicious taste.
    • Butter - The salted butter balances out the extra sweetness of this recipe. You can use anyone.
    • Chocolate- Milk chocolate works well for these bites.

See the recipe card for quantities.

How to make choco pillow bites?

Check out the video below to see how to make these 3 ingredient no-bake treats.

    1. Line any rectangular dish with parchment paper. Cut paper large enough to hang all four sides. I use a rectangular baking tin for this recipe.
    2. Crush choco pillows in a blender/food processor. These pillows are chocolate-filled, so avoid crushing them with your hands.
    3. Microwave chocolate and butter for 30 seconds in a bowl to melt them. Allow more time if they do not melt.
    4. Pour melted chocolate and butter into the crushed pillows in a bowl. Combine well to coat with the chocolate butter. Reserve a small amount of melted chocolate to decorate the bites later on.
    5. Fill the lined tin with this mixture. Firmly press it down evenly with the help of a rubber spatula and baking paper, as shown in the video.
    6. Once the top of the mixture is smooth, create some patterns with melted chocolate using a spoon. (see picture below)
choco pillow mixture in a lined tray
    1. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours. If you have enough time, keep it refrigerated overnight for better results.
    2. Once the mixture is completely set, remove the paper from the tray by lifting it from the edges.
    3. Cut into squares, rectangles or diamonds in any shape you like using a sharp knife.
    4. Serve these super yummy chocolate pillow slices as and when required!!

    Substitutions

    • Substitute with gluten-free cereals to have these gluten-free choco bits.
    • Replace butter with dairy-free and lactose-free options.
    • Avoid salted butter, If you prefer sweet on the higher side.
    • Use dark chocolate for a more prominent chocolatey taste.
    • My calorie-conscious friends can replace butter with ¼ cup of milk.

    Variations

    • Add nuts to get more crunchy and nutty bites.
    • If you love coconut, sprinkle coconut flakes on top of the mixture before refrigeration.
    • Love peanut butter, then why not think of swapping the butter with it?
    • Use white chocolate to decorate these bites.
    • You can also use flavoured choco pillows like berry, orange etc.,

    Storage

Store these choco bits bites in the fridge. It stays good for months.

As these bites contain butter and chocolate, leaving them on the shelves for a long time will result in their melting. So, always keep them refrigerated!!

    FAQ

    What are Choco Pillows?

Choco Pillows are crispy cereal pillows filled with chocolate. Some brands of these chocolate pillows are available with additional flavours like creamy, nutty and fruity! These pillows are consumed both in milk and plain as a snack.

How many calories is Choco Pillows cereal?

Harvest Morn Choco Pillows contain 143 calories in 1 serving (30 g). Calorie Breakdown:
    fat - 40%
    carbohydrate- 55%
    protein- 5%

How to press the mixture firmly into the tin?

After filing the mixture into the tin, press it firmly using a rubber spatula. Once it settles down, cover it with parchment paper and press again with your hands. Spread the mixture to the sides where it is less distributed. In this way, you will get a smooth and uniform top.

    Tips

    • Keep choco pillows a little chunky to highlight the texture to compliment the sweet treat.
    • Use choco pillows with hazelnut to get the best crunchy bites.
    • Avoid crushing pillows using your hands, as these will be too sticky to handle.
    • Use parchment as the resulting stuff will be stickier.
    • Make sure to overhang the parchment paper on both sides so that you can grab the overhang to lift it out. Another good reason for using a parchment lining is being less messed up and thus easy to clean.
    • You can also use a piping bag to decorate these bites.
    • Refrigerate for sufficient time to set it properly. If you slice the mixture before the setting, these will not turn into nice neat bites.
