What is Matcha?
Matcha is a Japanese bright green tea powder packed with antioxidants. It is a finely ground powder made from specially grown and processed green tea leaves. In Japan, people use matcha to conduct tea ceremonies.
It is no longer limited to Japan only. Nowadays, it is widely used in a variety of food and drink recipes all over the globe.
Is matcha simply regular green tea crushed into a fine powder?
The answer is no, as matcha differs from green tea in terms of color and flavor. Matcha is more vibrant, bright green, and sweet with a slightly astringent taste, whereas green tea is yellow-brown with a bitter taste. This is due to differences in the cultivation and grinding techniques used to prepare these powders.
Matcha falls under two different grades, ceremonial and culinary:
Ceremonial-grade is the highest quality and the most expensive matcha powder. It is used for traditional tea ceremonies. It must be served as purely as possible because of its delicate flavor.
Culinary-grade matcha is harvested from slightly older leaves than ceremonial-grade matcha. Because of its strong flavor, it can be used for cooking, baking, mixing, etc..
Ingredients for pineapple coconut matcha drink
To prepare this refreshing vegan summer drink, we need the following items:

Pineapple ginger syrup: We need only 2 tablespoons per drink, so prepare accordingly, or you can store the leftover syrup in the fridge.
For matcha: Use high-quality ceremonial Matcha green tea powder or green tea leaves for the best results.
How to make pineapple matcha at home?
To make pineapple matcha, we need pineapple ginger syrup. So, let's start with preparing this syrup as follows:
Grate the ginger using the coarse side of a grater. In a small bowl, mix together sugar, pineapple juice, water, and the grated ginger as shown in the images below.

Microwave it for 1 minute or until the mixture starts boiling. Stir well and let it cool for 8-10 minutes. Strain out the ginger, and use the syrup as required.

Note - Store the leftover ginger pineapple syrup in the fridge, and it can be used for up to one week. This syrup recipe calls for ⅓ cup of ginger pineapple syrup, as we need only two tablespoons per drink.
Next, add matcha powder and pineapple juice to a glass.

Agitate this matcha to combine well. Add a handful of ice to a glass. Pour in the pineapple ginger syrup prepared above.

Pour in coconut milk and stir well to combine all the ingredients (image below).

Serve and enjoy a vegan pineapple matcha drink!

FAQ
Absolutely! This drink is made with matcha, coconut milk, and pineapple, all nutritious ingredients. It’s also completely dairy-free and safe for those with lactose intolerance.
The main thing to keep in mind is the caffeine and sugar content. Since matcha naturally contains caffeine, this drink does too, about 70 milligrams per teaspoon of matcha powder. If you’re sensitive to caffeine, keep an eye on your intake.
For a healthier twist, swap refined sugar for natural sweeteners like stevia, honey, or maple syrup. Matcha itself is healthy; it may help with weight management, support heart health, and even boost mood and focus, according to some studies.
