Why you'll love these soupy drumsticks

  • Extremely easy - even if you’re new in the kitchen.
  • Low in carbs and high in protein making it great for lighter eating that keeps you full for longer.
  • No exotic spice blends required - just basic pantry staples.
  • With the sweet-salty soy-tomato sauce, these drumsticks are seriously finger-licking good.

Ingredients

To make this low-carb chicken legs recipe, you need the following items:

15 min chicken drumsticks
Ingredients for chicken drumsticks recipe

For the chicken drumsticks, I usually go with skinless ones, but use what works best for you.

Prepare the green onions by removing the roots, washing the stalks, and chopping both the white and green parts. They bring a unique taste to the recipe and make a great garnish too.

If that pungent green onion kick is your favorite, don’t miss this bottle gourd and green onion soup!

Feel free to use garlic paste if you like it. However, I prefer fresh garlic as it provides a richer flavor.

If you have garlic chutney on hand, add some for an even bigger flavor punch!

For sauce, combine equal portions of soy sauce and tomato ketchup in a small mixing bowl. This sauce imparts a unique taste and color to the chicken drumsticks.

Seasoning- Salt and pepper only.

How to make curried chicken drumsticks

In a small mixing bowl, combine equal parts of soy sauce and tomato ketchup and set it aside to add in the last stage. This sauce will add flavor and color to the soupy drumsticks.

Bring to a simmer and cook until the sauce thickens; remove from the heat. For a spicy twist, you can drizzle 2-ingredient chili oil or stir in a bit of red chilli chutney just before removing from the heat.

Garnish with spring onions. Serve these curry chicken drumsticks with rice or bread.

Serving Ideas

  • It tastes delicious with naan bread, Indian flatbreads such as plain, egg flatbread, or stuffed aloo paneer paratha.
  • These chicken legs also go well with hot steamed cumin rice and lemon rice.
  • These taste so yummy when served with stir-fries and air-fried carrots- potatoes.
  • Serve with crispy garlic bread for a unique but surprisingly delicious pairing.
  • With chowmein masala for a flavorful fusion.

FAQs

1. Can I use chicken thighs or curry-cut pieces instead of drumsticks?

Yes! You can easily swap drumsticks with thighs or curry-cut chicken. Just adjust the cooking time slightly depending on the size of the pieces.

2. Do I have to use green onions?

Green onions give the dish its signature flavor, but you can replace them with regular onions if needed. The taste will be different but still delicious.

3. Can I use frozen chicken drumsticks?

Yes, but thaw them completely before cooking to ensure even cooking and better flavor absorption.

4. Can I prepare this dish ahead of time?

Yes, you can cook it in advance. The flavors actually deepen after a few hours. Reheat on low heat before serving.

Tips

  1. Adjust the proportion of sauce according to your taste.
  2. Add a little amount of salt, as soy sauce also contains salt. It is better to add more later rather than ruin the recipe.
  3. Prepare the curry to your desired consistency.
  4. Replacing green onions with other onions will not bring their unique flavor to this recipe.
