  • Heart Pastry Puff

Puff Pastry hearts topped with fruit and cream are a delightful dessert option that combines the flaky texture of pre-made puff pastry with the lusciousness of fresh fruit and creamy toppings. These easy-peasy, delicious puff heart treats are slight modifications of cream puffs, where instead of filling cream inside, these are topped up with cream.

Incorporating fresh fruit into desserts is a delicious way to add a burst of natural flavor with appealing texture in recipes like fruit cream, chocolate-strawberry cake, and apple-walnut crumble.

Reasons to💖heart pastry puffs

  • Fewer ingredients - These heart cream puffs are prepared with only 4 ingredients and require only handy items.
  • Mess-free recipe - Recipes with cream are usually messy, but this one is a super simple recipe free from all that mess. This recipe calls for applying the cream on the puff with a spoon or knife, so you won't need any piping bags.
  • Fuss-free recipe - These puffy hearts are made with a frozen pre-rolled puff pastry sheet, so it eliminates the need to roll it. Therefore, anyone can use them directly after thawing without stressing on unfolding and rolling it.
  • Easy-peasy recipe - Undoubtedly, it is such an easy recipe that kids can also make it.
  • No perfection required - This recipe is 100% fail-proof without mastering any skill. Compared to traditional cream puffs, this recipe does not need slicing of the puffs for a pocket or shell for the fillings. The recipe only calls for cream topping.
  • Controlled calories - As these puff hearts are served with cream on top, you can control the amount of topping.
  • Perfect Valentine's Day recipe - Needless to say, it is sure to impress your loved one.
  • Delicious- These cream and fruit puffs taste so good that you can not stop eating them.

Ingredients

To make these pastry hearts, you need the following items:

Labelled ingredients for heart pastry.
  • Pastry sheet- Use a frozen puff pastry sheet for a quick and easy recipe. I use pre-rolled puff pastry sheets for these Valentine's puff pastry hearts.
    • If you use the other frozen pastry dough, unfold and roll it with a rolling pin to smoothen it.
    • The pastry sheet is thawed for 5-7 minutes before use.
  • Egg- Completely optional as it is used as an egg wash to give crisp and shiny puff hearts.
  • Cream: Use thickened/heavy cream to get the best results from the heart pastry recipe.
  • Sugar: Powdered sugar for sweetness. Use powdered ones for the smooth consistency of the cream.
  • Fruit: Use any type of fruit you prefer for toppings. I use strawberries for these creamy puffs.

See the recipe card for quantities.

Variations

  • Common choices for fruit toppings include raspberries, sliced peaches, kiwi, or any seasonal fruits that add a burst of natural sweetness and vibrant colors to the puffs.
  • Cream fillings vary, ranging from sweet whipped cream to rich custard or cheese cream.
  • Add vanilla flavor while whipping the cream.
  • Some other variations may include a layer of fruit jam or compote for added flavor complexity.
  • How about a drizzle of chocolate as the final topping for added elegance?

Storage

  • Store in the fridge if there is leftover. These cream puffs get soggy if they sit more than a day in the fridge.
  • The best is to consume these puffs as soon as you prepare them.

Tips

  • Thaw a pastry sheet for 5-8 minutes or as per the package instructions before use.
  • Use a preheated oven to bake the heart-shaped puff pastry.
  • Use chilled heavy cream, not frozen for the cream.
  • If the pastry sheet starts melting while working on it, keep it in the fridge for 5-10 minutes before baking.
  • Egg wash is optional. Use milk for egg-free options.
  • It is very important to completely cool down the puffs before applying the cream.
  • Chill slightly for about 5-10 minutes before serving if you live in a place with hot weather.
