👩🍳How to make air fryer chickpea and oats crackers
Combine the cooked chickpeas, oats, butter, lemon juice, cumin seeds, garam masala, and salt in a bowl. Transfer to a blender and blend until smooth, scraping down the sides as needed. Reserve the sesame seeds for topping the crackers.
Note: I didn't add any water while blending and preparing the dough.

Transfer the paste to a bowl and knead until it forms a soft dough. Place the dough on a sheet of baking paper and cover it with another sheet. Roll it into a thin rectangle, keeping the thickness as even as possible.

Remove the top sheet of baking paper and cut the dough into equal-sized squares or rectangles. Keeping the cookies a similar thickness helps them cook evenly. Gather the leftover dough, roll it out again, and cut it into crackers. Repeat until all the dough is used up.

Arrange the crackers in a single layer on a lined air fryer tray, leaving a little space between them. Sprinkle sesame seeds over the top and gently press them down with a spatula to help them stick.

Chill the tray in the fridge for 15 minutes to firm up the crackers before cooking. Preheat the air fryer to 180°C for 7-8 minutes. Place the tray in the air fryer and bake the crackers until golden and crisp (it took me approx. 20-25 mins). Cooking times may vary depending on the appliance and cracker thickness. Check towards the end of cooking.
Turn off the air fryer and leave the crackers inside for 5 minutes. Transfer them to a cooling rack and allow them to cool completely before serving. They will become crisper as they cool.
Store these yummy chickpea crackers with oats and nibble them whenever there's a little craving!

🧐Variations
- For deeper flavor, blend in garlic chutney or add a little fresh garlic.
- Use chilli oil or chilli chutney for a spicy version.
- Try using oil instead of butter, keeping in mind that it may slightly change the dough's texture and the crackers' flavor.
- Experiment with peanuts or other seeds, such as sunflower and pumpkin seeds, for extra crunch.
❄️Storage
Allow the crackers to cool completely before storing to prevent moisture buildup.
Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place.
For the best taste and texture, enjoy these crackers within 3-4 days.
If they soften during storage, briefly air fry them again to restore their crispness.
🥄Serving Suggestions
Enjoy these chickpea and oats crackers with:
A bowl of soup for a simple snack or light accompaniment.
A cup of masala chai or your favourite tea.
Hummus, guacamole, green chutney, or another savory dip.

📝Tips
- Adjust the dough if needed: Well-drained chickpeas should help the mixture come together without extra water. If the dough is too dry, add a tiny splash of water at a time.
- Roll evenly: Keep the dough at a consistent thickness so the crackers cook evenly.
- Check while air frying: Cooking times may vary, so keep checking and remove any that crisp up earlier.
- Cool completely: Let the crackers cool on a rack before storing.
If you enjoy experimenting with easy air fryer recipes, these oat crackers with chickpeas are worth adding to your snack list!
